2 Sides, Same Star

Description

Noodling around again.

Origami star made from paper recycled from old textbooks. Covered in a layer of masking tape, then a layer of gesso. One side covered with sharpie swirls, the other side covered with black acrylic and gesso swirls. Then a layer of shellac over everything.

Originally both sides were white with the black swirls, which I like more. (I'm better with a pen than with a paintbrush, but it'd help if I'd go out and buy decent brushes instead of the cheapo ones.) But I found out the hard way that if you hold the can of shellac too close to something covered in pen, the thing bleeds all over creation. *Ruined* the one side. So I dragged out some leftover acrylic and painted over the bad side and redid the swirls in gesso.

I like the effect, but I think it's hilarious that when I was telling :iconfandragon: about it, I got to the part where i said I ruined the one side and she said "So I guess you'll just recover it with gesso and redo the black swirls then?"

...yes, that would've been easier wouldn't it? I outsmart myself a lot, I really do...
